Preparing MV Oktavia for the New 2018-2019 Season

MV Oktavia - Similan Islands Diving Season

2018-2019

Similan Islands Liveaboard

Our Khao Lak Diving Season

Between the months of October through to May each year, our wonderful Similan Islands Liveaboard Vessel MV Oktavia provides our guests with stunning Scuba Diving and Snorkeling Liveaboard Cruises to the Best Dive Sites in Thailand.

Each week throughout the Similan Islands Diving Season we head out for our 5 Day Similan Liveaboard Cruise.  Departing from Khao Lak we transfer our guests the short distance to Tab Lamu Pier to board MV Oktavia.  From there we sail into the sunset start our journey through the Similan and Surin National Marine Parks.

Boat Maintenance is Everything!

We cover around 300 kilometers on each of our 5 Day Similan Liveaboard Cruises!  As you can imagine, this works MV Oktavia extremely hard over the course of the season.  Ensuring that she is in the very best condition at the start of every season is the key to our longevity and allows Oktavia to continue to provide the very best in Similan Islands Liveaboard Cruises to our Guests year-on-year.

  MV Oktavia - Dry Dock

At the end of each season MV Oktavia takes the journey down to Phuket Ship Yard to begin her annual inspection and maintenance program.

The first stage on arrival is to wait for the correct tidal conditions to allow the dock crew to lift all 30 meters of her out of the water and securely mount on pylons.

As she is a very large, wooden hulled vessel, our highly experience engineers have to inspect every inch of her, identifying any work required, and ensuring it is carried out to the very highest standards.

Finishing and Re-floating

Once all the maintenance work is complete it is time to add new coats of paint and prepare her for re-floating.

MV Oktavia - Back in the Water
Once again we must wait for the ideal tide in order to get her back in the water.  It's always an exciting and slightly worrying time as we watch her guide into the water - but the brilliant crew at the ship year always make it look effortless.

Join Us for the New Season 2018-2019

MV Oktavia is now back at Tab Lamu Pier, but the work hasn't stopped.  We have a number of improvements planned for her next season, including an extended seating area - so our Crew are busy working away on a rather extensive 'To-Do' List to make sure the 2018-2019 Season is our Best Ever!
